Marine Rock Wool Board for Ship Insulation Systems

The hydrophobic marine-grade rock wool from ABM® maintains outstanding water resistance, achieving a repellency level of ≥99% and a moisture content of ≤1%. Water absorption remains extremely low—no more than 0.5 kg/m² after 24 hours and ≤2.0 kg/m² after 28 days of partial immersion. Even under high-pressure water exposure, it dries without compromising performance, and the insulation retains its original dimensions without swelling.

ABM® marine rock wool is made of highly porous, interconnected fibers. Sound energy is converted into heat through fiber vibration and friction, significantly reducing reflection and transmission of sound waves, providing a quiet and undisturbed environment for work and living.

This product is free of asbestos and is recognized by the WHO’s IARC as not belonging to the group of materials considered potentially carcinogenic. Its extract solution is neutral to mildly alkaline, ensuring compatibility with and non-corrosion of adjacent materials. ABM® marine rock wool contains no CFCs, HCFCs, or HFCs, making it safe for the environment and non-damaging to the ozone layer.

Its open-cell fiber system allows moisture vapor to move easily through the insulation, enhancing natural drying and reducing the likelihood of condensation. This high level of permeability helps maintain a drier environment and mitigates mold growth.

ABM® marine rock wool fibers are slender, with an average diameter of 5 μm, surpassing the national standard of ≤7 μm. The slag ball content is low, about 5%, well below the national standard of ≤10%. This results in low thermal conductivity and excellent insulation performance.

Across its operational lifetime, ABM® marine rock wool conserves more than one hundred times the energy required for its manufacturing, transport, and end-of-life recycling. This makes it an exceptionally energy-efficient insulation solution.
